Central Ranges National Events

As one of the most picturesque regions in Australia, the Central Ranges in New South Wales is a magnet for visitors from across the country and beyond. And for good reason - the region boasts a rich cultural heritage, varied landscapes, and a vibrant community. Among its many attractions are some of the most iconic, nationally or globally recognized annual events that people might observe.

The Orange F.O.O.D Week (Food Week) is one of the most famous food festivals in Australia, held in Orange every year in April. This festival celebrates the region's local produce, plating up sumptuous dishes from local restaurants and cafes. During the Food Week, visitors can explore farmers' markets, vineyards, art events and join cooking classes for a unique culinary experience.

In September, the Bathurst 1000 attracts motor racing enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies for one of the most iconic races in Australia. The Bathurst 1000 is a 1000-kilometer touring car race that takes place on the Mount Panorama Circuit. The race has been held annually since 1960; it typically draws over 200,000 visitors each year. The race attracts not only fans of motorsport but also party-goers, with plenty of live music and social events such as the Great Race Party, Little Legends Club, and infield camping experiences over the four-day event.

The Country Music festival is another globally recognized event held every year in Tamworth, every January, celebrating Australian country music. The festival brings together country music fans and artists alike, providing a platform for aspiring musicians to take the stage with seasoned veterans. The festival features a variety of events, such as talent quests, busking competitions, and live performances by some of the genre's best artists.

The Mudgee Wine and Food Festival, held every September-October, is a popular event for those looking to sample some of Australia's best wines and mouth-watering cuisine. Visitors to this event can tour the vineyards and wineries located throughout the region. You can attend masterclasses, live performances, regional food-events, cellar-door tastings, and experience the harvest season culture for an all-around experience in wine country.

Central Ranges also hosts one of the most grueling multiday running events in the world, the Ultra-Trail Australia, held each May in the Blue Mountains. With a variety of distances, from 50km to 100km to 170km, participants face extreme endurance challenges along rocky terrain and steep inclines. The event attracts the world's best trail runners and competitors from all over the world looking to test themselves among one of Australia's most beautiful national parks, the Blue Mountains National Park.

The Central West city of Forbes host the Annual Forbes Picnic Races every year and attracts visitors and locals alike. This event is held on Easter Saturday and offers attendees the picturesque backdrop of the racecourse, hosting horse racing, Fashions on the Field, live entertainment, and outdoor games. The Forbes picnic races have over 150 years of history and is now one of the region's most renowned events.

Lastly, another significant event in the Central Ranges is the Cowra Annual Sakura Matsuri, held every September in Cowra's Japanese Garden. This event celebrates spring and Cowra's sister relationship with a Japanese dity, Minokamo. Visitors can enjoy Japanese food, dancing, Bonsai tree displays, performances, traditional Japanese cultural experiences, and of course, the beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom.
